BOYS UNDER 8's

Abbeymead Tournament

Success for Reds at Abbeymead

Quedgeley U8's Reds & Blues went to the Abbeymead tournament at the weekend with high hopes. Both teams faced tough opposition in their group games. The Blues lost out in their group with a strong St Marks topping the group followed by Hucclecote.

In the other group the Reds started strongly dispensing with Abbeymead A and Hucclecote B 5-0 & 3-0 respectively. A little complacency resulted in a 1-1 score draw with Highnam. The Reds then met Longlevens in a group decider. Longlevens scraped a 2-1 win to head the group, but the Reds were through as group runners up and faced a strong St Marks in the semi final.

Quedgeley Reds started strongly scoring in the first minute and soon added a second to go in at half-time 2-0, St Marks came back strong after the break scoring almost immediately. A tense few minutes followed with both sides having chances before a Quedgeley broke away for a tap in and a 3-1 win. This would be their first final against Hucclecote who had beaten Longlevens 1-0 in the other Semi Final.

In the final Quedgeley were slow to start and Hucclecote got on the scoresheet early, but the Reds came back at them and equalised before half-time. The second half was tight with the Reds looking the stronger but an unfortunate hand-ball just outside the area gave Hucclecote a free kick from which they scored.

The Reds were still not beaten and came back at the opposition but Hucclecote defended strongly with every man and Quedgeley Reds just ran out of time. A great performance from the boys though and well done Lewis, Aaron, Danny, Joe, Rory, Ben, Ben & Nathan and a great result for the coaches

We are delighted to announce that the team now has a sponsor - RGM South West Limited - and as part of the deal the team have been provided with a new football kit. We are over the moon with the deal and would like to say a special thank you to Ray Gardner of RGM South West Limited for making this happen.

The boys will be sporting their new kit for the first time at the match on Sunday against Hardwicke Rangers (see below for details).
